Analytics firm IHS Markit recently released a report in which the company named the ASUS ZenScreen as “…the world’s best-selling series of portable monitors”.
IHS Markit’s research found that the ZenScreen series made up 64% of the total global shipments of portable monitors during the first three quarters of 2019.
A young market
The portable monitor market is quite young compared to more traditional PC hardware markets, but consumers are increasingly discovering just how beneficial they are, says IHS Markit.
This observation was based on the year-on-year figures of portable monitor shipments, which IHS says increased by 46% in 2019.
It’s no wonder, since the ZenScreen is incredibly thin and lightweight, connects to video sources over USB, has good battery life, and offers excellent image quality.
Since 2013, ASUS has released a number of ZenScreen portable monitors designed to satisfy on-the-go users with a second screen for their notebooks and smartphones. Each model has improved on its predecessor, culminating in the most recent model, the MB16AC.
ASUS has occupied the top spot in portable monitor sales for three consecutive years, according to top online retailers in the US, Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Back in 2019, we reviewed the ASUS ZenScreen MB16AC. It was at the time the world’s slimmest and lightest 15.6-inch full HD portable monitor which also supported a hybrid signal solution.
Our review said of the ZenScreen that “This is a beautiful, useful, and elegantly-designed portable screen that will serve highly mobile people very well, and it’s now available from Tarsus Distribution.”
A Gaming ZenScreen
The official ASUS press release that announced this included news of a portable monitor aimed at gamers: the ASUS ROG Strix XG17.
It’s a portable 17-inch IPS screen that boasts a crazy 240Hz refresh rate and a response time of just 3ms – exactly the type of specs gamers are interested in. Two speakers deliver audio in stereo.
The XG17 also charges quickly: ASUS says users get two hours of use after a one-hour charge. This is great for anyone that wants to game while they’re travelling.
Tarsus Distribution does not stock the XG17 at this time; we are expecting stock to arrive in the next few months, however, so keep an eye out for that.
Two ZenScreens are available from Tarsus Distribution in 2020: the MB168B and MB16AC. Contact your account manager today for more information or to place an order.
