At Samsung’s latest Unpacked event that was held in New York on August 9th, the company took the wraps off of two major Galaxy devices, the Galaxy Note 9 and the Galaxy Watch, both of which will be available soon from Tarsus Distribution.
A Note of note
The Note 9 is of particular, er, note, as Samsung is calling it “The World’s Most Advanced Smartphone”. The Korean electronics giant has backed it with some pretty impressive hardware starting with the fastest CPU they’ve ever developed – a 10nm octa-core processor – and promising “all-day battery life” thanks to a 4000mah battery.
Other highlights include an LTE modem capable of speeds of up to 1.2Gbps, a gorgeous 6.4-inch display, and storage options that go all the way up to 512GB of internal storage. That means, with the addition of a 512GB memory card, you could be walking around with a full terabyte of phone storage in your pocket!
Overall, the Note 9 offers a pretty potent configuration; Samsung says it’s aimed at “a new generation of users and creators” and it will give them “what they want, when they want it”, and on paper, it certainly seems like it is set to deliver that, and more.
The Note 9 also gets a new S-Pen, which utilises Bluetooth low-energy connectivity and lets owners use it as a remote control for things like taking photos, moving through slideshows, and playing/pausing videos.
It’s very hard not to get at least a bit excited over the Note 9; we dare you not to feel at least a touch of tech envy while you watch Samsung’s official Note 9 video:
The (Galaxy) Watch to watch
The other big splash at Unpacked came from the latest version of Samsung’s smart watch, the Galaxy Watch, which will come in two different sizes – 42mm and 46mm – and feature two different battery sizes – 270maH and 474maH – as well as two connectivity options – LTE and Bluetooth-only.
The biggest news, though, is that these new watches won’t need to be charged every night! Samsung says they will all offer seven-day batteries, so no more worrying about the watch fading after just one day, or having to connect it to power every night before bed.
Of course, the Galaxy Watch will also come packed with sensors and water-proofness, all the better to monitor your biology and let you swim with it. Apparently its 5ATM certification offers water protection to depths of up to 50m.
There’s a lot to get excited about here if you’re a fan of Samsung’s devices. Both of these devices will be available from Tarsus Distribution in the coming weeks, although the exact dates and pricing are yet to be confirmed.
Should you be keen on either of these for yourself or your customers, Charl Van Den Berg is the best person to speak to at Tarsus Distribution, as he is the Samsung Product Manager. Give him a call on 011 531 1000, or send him an email and he’ll get back to you.
